A new study shows that some men over 40 may be more susceptible to sexual problems, including erectile dysfunction.
Researchers in a study published online Thursday in the journalJAMA Internal Medicineconcluded that men over 40 may be more susceptible to erectile dysfunction than previously thought, even if they didn’t have any other medical conditions or had any problems with sexual performance. The researchers then compared the incidence of these problems among those who were taking an SSRI (sildenafil), a popular drug for erectile dysfunction. Viagra was the most prescribed drug, with the others being Levitra (vardenafil), Cialis (tadalafil), and Stendra (avanafil).
The researchers reported the results in a, the most recent publication by the, of the. They found that men who took an SSRI for a longer period were more likely to have erectile dysfunction.
The findings were published in the journal, in a, an online edition of the journal.
The researchers compared the number of people in their study with men who had erectile dysfunction and those who didn’t, and found that the number of people taking an SSRI was significantly higher in men over 40 who were taking it than in men who didn’t. The difference was statistically significant.
Viagra is sold under the brand name Revatio, while Viagra is used by men with erectile dysfunction.
Viagra has been the subject of a U. S. Food and Drug Administration panel discussion to warn of the increased risk of erectile dysfunction among men over 40. The FDA has issued a warning to men with erectile dysfunction.
The panel of experts said the results should raise awareness of the risks and should raise questions about how men are treated and their sexual performance.
“We think that the results from this study may be alarming and we are committed to developing safer and more effective treatment options,” said Dr. Nachum Katlowitz, a urologist with Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Katlowitz added that he was not involved in the study and had no role in its analysis.
“We don’t have a long term data base to tell us how safe and effective the medication is, but we do have a lot of data that we can come to know,” said Dr. John Smith, a urologist with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and the Mayo Clinic’s medical director, who is also a former urologist.
The results were published in the journal, in part because the researchers had some information to share with them, including a small sample of men who had been taking an SSRI for some time and an association between taking the drug and erectile dysfunction. The researchers said that if the association was confirmed, the men taking the drug for the longer period would have a much higher chance of experiencing erectile dysfunction.
Other researchers and researchers at the University of Pennsylvania had similar findings. The study was published online January 17 in the journalFertil Steril.
“The idea that the men in this study who took Viagra for more than one year may be more likely to have erectile dysfunction is ridiculous,” said Dr. Charles Bennett, a urologist with the American Urological Association and the Urology Institute at the Mayo Clinic.
“The data we have is pretty good and the only difference between the two is that Viagra was the most prescribed drug in our study,” Bennett said. “And the other drugs were also the most prescribed.”
“Viagra is a medication that we have studied over 20 years and they are the most common and well tolerated medications for erectile dysfunction,” said Dr. John Smith. “But they are not as safe, or as effective as Viagra. They have some potential side effects.”
Viagra has been the subject of a, a public health advisory panel to warn about the increased risk of erectile dysfunction among men over 40.
“These drugs may be a cause for concern,” said Dr. Robert Kavanagh, a urologist with the Cleveland Clinic.
“They have the potential for a number of adverse effects, including an increased risk of cardiovascular events, and some potentially serious allergic reactions.
Viagra 50mg tablet contains an active component such as Sildenafil. This medication is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. Individuals with a history of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart problems (angina, heart failure, irregular heartbeats) or recent heart attack, should exercise caution when using Viagra. The sexual activity itself can strain the heart and can further increase the strain by increasing blood flow. Consult with a healthcare professional to assess the risks and benefits in such cases. This medication can cause a mild decrease in blood pressure. Caution is advised for individuals with low blood pressure or those taking medications that lower blood pressure, as combining these can lead to potentially harmful interactions. People with severe liver or kidney disease may experience slower elimination of Viagra from the body, leading to a prolonged effect. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in such cases.
